After the Renaissance, early 17th century, a new style called BAROQUE is introduced. Hailing from Italy and heavily encouraged by the Roman Catholic Church, the Baroque style is notable for its rich decorations and a sumptuous use of materials.

The word baroque is derived from the Portuguese barokko and represents splendour.
